Cannot update account type from API but from web interface

When I try to change account type from the API I get an error:
Cannot change account type: There is/are 3 entry(ies) for this account. {id=1888532003}

But I can easily change it from the web interface.
What is the reason for this discrepancy?

Do I need to update the API assembly? I use ver. 1.4.5.33494
